Fixed and Removable Dental Retainer Types

Fixed Retainers: Also known as permanent or bonded retainers, these are cemented to the inner surfaces of the teeth to keep them aligned and prevent movement after braces.

Removable Retainers: These can be taken out for eating and cleaning and are available in two main forms:

• Clear plastic that fits over the teeth.
• A dental wire attached to an acrylic plate shaped to the mouth.
